How to Choose the Right Hair Color for Your Skin Tone

Great article on http://styletips101.com/hair-how-tos/how-to-choose-the-right-hair-color-for-your-skin-tone.html

Since I wrote a post about this season’s hottest hair colors, I thought I’d it follow it up with an informative post about how to actually choose the right hair color for your skin tone (thanks to a fellow reader!). Whether you’re a natural blonde, brunette, or redhead, you can pretty much change to any hair color as long as you follow some strict guidelines.

SKIN TONE

All complexions consist of two skin tone categories: warm skin tones and cool skin tones.

WARM SKIN TONES

If you have a yellow or golden undertone, you fall under the warm category. Therefore, hair colors that have a warm undertone will look much better on you than a cool undertone color. So how can you tell if you have a warm skin tone? Simply look at the veins in your arms in the day light. If the veins appear to be green, then your complexion is warm. And don’t forget that this rule doesn’t only apply to hair but everything else in between such as makeup and clothing!

COOL SKIN TONES

If you have pink or blue skin undertones, you have a cool skin tone. This means that hair colors with cool undertones will look better on you. To see if your skin tone is cool, take a look at the veins in your arms during daylight and if they are blue, then you have a cool complexion.

TIPS

COOL TONE COLORS

WARM TONE COLORS

- If you’re dying your hair for the first time, head to your local salon for better results. Plus, they’ll be able to match you with your perfect hair color.

- If you’re a pro at dying your hair at home (you’ve done it a few times), don’t forget that all dye boxes now tell you whether the color is warm or cool.

- There are always exceptions to the rules, such as combining warm and cool tones and using them as dimensional colors, but again, I would suggest you get this done by a professional

- Can’t figure out what your skin tone is? As a rule of thumb, most people are actually cool toned.

Hair Health – How to Have Healthy Hair, Part Two

Having healthy hair is easier once you know what effects hair and what choices you can make to support you hair in being healthy. To have healthy hair there are factors you have to consider from the inside and from the outside.

Inside factors include anything that is going on inside your body. This includes the kinds of things you are ingesting (food, beverages, thoughts), what form of release you have established (exercise, yoga, breath work, being outside, laughter, fun) and if you are in a state of health and balance. The three biggest inside factors that affect your hair are stress, hormones and medication.

Outside factors include how you treat your hair, what you do to your hair (color, straighten, blow drying), environmental factors (pollution, ozone layer, air conditioning, artificial heat, chlorine) and weather (sun, wind, humidity, cold).

In this article we are going to focus on the outside factors and what you can do to support your hair in being healthy.

How You Treat Your Hair
Begin in the shower, what shampoo and conditioner do you use? It needs to be quality. Professional products are usually best. A product with keratin and moisture does wonders for anyone with chemically treated hair. Keratin is a form of protein and protein will rebuild your hair from the inside out. Moisture will protect your hair on the surface. It is crucial to have quality products for quality hair.

If you brush your hair when wet, switch to a comb. Hair is most elastic when wet, and if your hair is weak or vulnerable, it can overstretch and break when it’s wet. Just take care. Combing is more forgiving.

Next, use product in your hair if you plan on using any kind of heat. Product will help protect your hair. If you are blow drying, put your product on, then finish getting ready or eat breakfast and let your hair air dry for a bit. When you do blow dry, start on warm to get your hair 70 to 90 percent dry, then switch to hot heat. Use the heat as a styling tool, to give your hair a finished, polished look.

Don’t wash your hair everyday. This is super for your scalp and hair. You can use hair power and a quick freshening spray on your non-wash days, in combination with a quick blow dry on hot, to reshape your hair. Over time, this will make a huge impact of the health of your hair. Less washing means less styling. Less styling is less wear and tear on your hair.

What You Do To Your Hair
If you color or straighten your hair it is important to give back to your hair. You need to do all that we have just covered, not as an option, but as a practice of how to treat your hair. Also ask your stylist about gloss for coloring. It is safe and effective and feels wonderful. Your hair will shine.

Environmental Factors
Be aware of the environmental factors you can control. Nourish your hair with oils if you are in artificial heat or air.

Weather Factors
Put fresh water in your hair, then conditioner, then a cap on if you are getting in chlorinated water. Treat you hair to a deep conditioning treatment if you live in an area with extreme weather. Wear hats if you are out in the sun or cold.

Now that you know what factors affect your hair you can make choices to be nice to your body from the inside. Use quality products to nourish and protect your hair from heat, weather and daily life. Don’t wash everyday and take care to take care.

How To Grow Healthy Hair

“Hair brings one’s self image into focus; it is vanity’s proving ground. Hair is terribly personal, a tangle of mysterious prejudices”
- Shana Alexander.

Healthy hair is the crucial accessory which adds to the overall beauty of a woman or a man. One should keep the hair in healthy condition and maintain in order to get lustrous, damage free, shiny and lush locks.

In order to overcome these woes one can simply follow certain advices which will not only help one’s tresses to grow but also to cure damaged hair.

Combing the wet hair is not advisable as they are more prone to breaking. Always allow the hair to dry. Using proper bristles is the key to enhance blood circulation to hair root which facilitates growth.

Deep conditioning of this is necessary once in every 10 days because of which the hair shaft and strands become strong. Along with strengthening it also helps in opening of cuticles so that essential nutrients and ingredients can penetrate and nourish to get healthy growth.

Washing the hair is the best way to keep it clean and dirt free. Oily scalp and hair follicles tend to attract more dust and dirt which clogs the root end. This can lead to itchy, scaly skin that may hamper the growth. Ensure that the hairbrush and hair clips are devoid of old dirt and residues. It may be advisable to clean the comb and brush with a proper cleanser.

Split hair can be another problem which hinders growth; hence intermediate hair cutting ensures long gleaming healthy hair. The ends of hair are more porous due to rough handling, coloring, perming and exposure to heat appliances and as a result the hair fails to grow further.

It is rightly said that you are what you eat, the main crux to get healthy hair is to have a balanced meal which includes leafy vegetables, cereals, citrus fruits, milk products, spinach, apricots, whole grains etc. Food rich in iron and zinc is essential in faster and growth; hence one should supplement meals with iron and zinc rich ingredients.

Ayurveda herbs like brahmi, amalaki, bhringaraj, rosemary, lavender and hibiscus are known to provide excellent tonic for this tuff. These herbs help stimulating the hair follicles thereby promoting hair growth. They even retard premature hair graying and thinning. Above all stress reduction is additional benefit of Ayurveda herbs which help in getting beautiful, shiny and healthy hair naturally.

2011 Hairstyles

In 2011 hairstyles are all about movement. That may sound like an odd theme as people generally want their hair to stay in place, however this is about a look and is descriptive of the overall feel of 2011 hairstyles. Styles are seen to be moving due to clever hair cutting and styling techniques, for example slashed layers, brushed in various directions, give the illusion of very free moving hair, even if it is held in place with a spray. Lines are dynamic, from arc shaped fringes, to intricate braids, giving extra dimensions to hairstyles and adding interesting twists.

The other noticable trend for 2011 hairstyles, is a candy floss texture. This is new, it is a matt look, and very soft and feminine. It has been seen on many catwalks, with models wearing an extreme version of this style, of course for everyday hairstyles, the look can be toned down, and a little back combing of the top layer of hair, along with a spray of sea salt or wax hairspray, for a matt finish, holds the hair in place.

Center partings are back in fashion, looking best on round and oval shaped faces, a center parting gives a nice symmetry to hairstyles and of course is easy to maintain. With blunt, thick, long bangs / fringes popular in 2011, a center parting is a way to wear the hair on days that you maybe do not have time to style the thick, blunt fringed look. So it gives the option to be versatile with your bangs.

The latest look for bangs (or fringes), as previously mentioned, is a blunt, full look. Rather than being cut straight across, they are being cut in arc shapes, which adds that new look. They are long and so need to be cut regularly, as just hovering above the eyes, too long will be annoying, so you may need to get some hair cutting scissors, to keep your blunt bangs in tip top condition, without breaking the bank.

2011 hairstyles are seen to contain lots of interesting new braiding techniques. Adding braids to hairstyles makes them look more interesting and adds a splash of detail that can give that extra swag to an otherwise common look. Fishtail plaiting is nice, but also basket weaves and really any kind of braid you can imagine. Incorporating a braid into your hair, really looks great and updates any style. You can also buy pre braided hair extensions, that can be clipped in and wound around the head.

Wet looks are fashionable for short cropped hairstyles in 2011, but can also be worn on longer hair, at the tips, giving a just out the shower look, fresh and clean! The other look is big hair, voluminous, but not harsh. Voluminous hair should be softened by using gentle teasing with a comb and sea salt spray. Long hairstyles in 2011 can also be lush, that is, long full and in excellent condition, with perfectly formed waves. If your hair does not have that much volume, hair extensions can be clipped in and in recent years have become more widely available and not expensive.

2011 hairstyles can be any color, but most popular are bright shades of blonde and red, as well as deep multi tonal dark shades for brunettes. Panels of hair color that give the illusion of shine and hairstyles that have different shades in the tips or roots are also popular. When choosing several shades for your hair, keep them within a few shades of the base color, for a modern look.

So with movement and wispy textures being the keys to 2011 hairstyles, the new year is a good time to assess your look and go for a new one. Search for some pictures of 2011 hairstyles to find something you like and then consult your local hair stylist, who will be well informed on how to achieve the latest 2011 hairstyle looks.

The Long and Short of It All, Top Hairstyles for 2011

Hairstyles continue to evolve year after year. Some classic styles remain, and some trends become outdated and become a thing of the past. For 2011, adventure is the bottom line when it comes to hairstyles. Here are some of the trends to look forward to in 2011.

Short hair will be a big trend in 2011. Over the last 5 years, short hairstyles started to become more popular. Celebrities who are known for their long tresses have chopped their hair off and opted for a more stylish, easy to wear short do. Short hair is easy to maintain, and depending on the cut, can either flatter one’s features or go against them and make the woman look outdated. Short hair for women can range from very short like close to the scalp to a simple bob. Whatever your choice maybe, it is important to find one which can give you plenty of options in terms of styling as well as one that is just right for your face shape. Not all women can wear every length and style as there are some short hair trends that definitely chooses its wearer. One tip is to discuss what you like with your hairdresser. That way, he could incorporate it in finding something that will work for you.

Another big thing would be the bangs. From delicate side-swept, to edgy fringes, to even a bit wavy ones, bangs will be all over the place this year. Bangs essentially makes the wearer look younger and more modern.

Curls, which never really went out of style, will be another biggie next year. The curls for 2011 are predicted to be shorter and more adventurous. They also will be rounder, and more defined as opposed to mere sexy waves we have seen in the past.

Are you getting ready for 2011? Prepare to chop your hair off to a more adventurous style.

Healthy Diet For Healthy Hair

When it comes to your tresses, both the internal and external treatment you provide are of equal importance. It means that both the quality of your diet and of the products you put on your hair have to be considered.

It is important to drink enough water, because water makes your hair not only supple and soft, but also silky and shiny. So, don’t wait until you feel thirsty! Just keep drinking water!

Dietitians recommend a diet rich in protein for healthy hair, since hair consists of primarily protein. Eating protein rich foods like fish, meat, milk and cheese will give your hair more strength, while preventing it from breaking and splitting. Put eggs also on your menu! However they’re served up, scrambled, fried, boiled, eggs are one of the best protein sources one can find.

Minerals are also vital for healthy hair. Let’s take a closer look at their roles: iron carries oxygen to the hair, zinc prevents hair loss, while copper improves the natural color of your hair. To get sufficient iron, do include red meat and dark green vegetables in your diet. Your hair can receive the needed amount of zinc from meat and seafood. Fresh vegetables, nuts, seeds, meat and liver are a precious source of copper. By the way, low-fat dairy products like skim milk and yogurt contain calcium, an important mineral for hair growth.

Because vitamins help in the growth of your hair you must ensure that your diet includes all the necessary ones. Vitamin A, found especially in carrots is good for skin and keeps your scalp healthy. Including fruit, vegetables, cereals, eggs, milk and bread in your daily diet you supply your body with vitamin B and C, which are ideal for hair growth and color.

And don’t forget to exercise! Along with a healthy hair diet, this will ensure that blood flows properly to your scalp, helping your hair to grow.

On the other side, you have to take care externally of your tresses. Nothing can be better than making use of top-class shampoos, conditioners, styling products and color support under the expert eye of skillful salon teams.

It follows that the most effective way to get healthy hair is through a healthy diet doubled harmoniously by the use of high-quality hair care products praised by professionals

If you are looking for professional salon quality hair care products then Bumble and Bumble are the products for you.

Holiday Up Dos

Do you have a lot of Christmas parties to attend this year? After a long day at work the last thing you want to do is come home and have to do your hair! Here is a easy way for us women with curly hair . . . Watch and learn

Hair Color Trends for Fall and Winter 2010

With each change in the season also come changes in trends for clothing and hairstyles. If you want to keep up to date with your look, it will be important to learn about the hair color trends for fall and winter 2010. As summer soon comes to a close, there are new trends appearing when it comes to hair for both male and females.

Regardless of the current trends, it is also important to remember that your skin tone and eye color will have an impact on the hair color that you should choose. Following every new trend blindly without consideration of your skin tone and hair type can lead to disaster. Just because something is “hot” right now does not mean that it’s going to be best for you.

It’s important to first learn about the trends and then to make the right decision about the one that is best for you. Dying your hair is one way you can achieve an instant makeover. It can completely change the way you look or it can be used just for subtle highlights to accent your features.

For 2010 fall and winter seasons, it’s all about the subtle changes such as highlights or coloring that is close to your natural shade. Hair highlights and lowlights are a great way to bring out your features, such as your eyes.

Caramel and honey colored highlights are great for people with blonde hair. Different shades of blonde can benefit from highlights and lowlights in these shades. They help break the monotony of a single shade of blonde and also give you a more natural look.

Another popular shade if you are looking to change the overall color instead of just highlights is copper. Copper has been hot throughout the summer and it will remain a popular shade throughout the rest of 2010 as well. It’s a great look because it can go with all skin types and it looks great on all different types of hair styles and cuts.

If you’re brunette and want a change but don’t want to go too drastic, consider a base of dark chocolate with some golden brown highlights. For fine or limp hair, start the highlights at the mid section of the hair to give the appearance of more volume.

If you’re a redhead, there are great shades for you this season, too. Try mahogany tones or even plum or hazelnut. Redheads do well with an all over color as opposed to just highlights as it blends better with their skin tone.

Now that you can see what the current and upcoming hair color trends for fall and winter 2010 will be, you no longer have to be worried about having a boring shade or the wrong shade. Your hair can look fabulous all year long!

Food that makes hair healthy

If you’re one of the many vacationers this summer who dread split ends and dried-out hair after a day at the beach or pool, or find that the sun isn’t kind to healthy tresses, or discover that the partial weave doesn’t look as good as in the magazines, there’s a better alternative to hair extensions, minoxidil, and high-priced salons. You may be having a bad hair day because of what you put in your mouth.

Studies by hair loss prevention researchers at MMT Research Inc. found that bad hair days abound when we don’t get enough vitamins or protein. Bad nutrition causes hair loss (androgenic alopecia). In the April 2003 issue of Better Nutrition, zinc, for example, inhibits high levels of DHT, a form of testosterone that is linked to hair loss. Other inhibitors are amino acids such as L-arginine, essential fatty acids such as omega-3 (found in fish), lecithin, B vitamins, lutein, sulfur, iron, and minerals that help your magnificent mane. You can find these hair helpers in:

o Beans

o Whole grains

o Eggs

o Salmon

o Raw nuts

o Flax and pumpkin seeds

o Berries

o Dark greens

Salmon and greens also provide calcium for your teeth, so you’re helping your hair and teeth. Berries are high in cancer-preventing antioxidants, and dark greens also contain lutein, which halts blindness and cataracts. So when you eat all of the above, you’ll have a great hair day and look like you just had a day at a luxury spa.

In 2004, Dr. Nicholas Perricone’s bestselling book, THE PERRICONE PROMISE, outlined a diet for hair that differs from the 2003 recommendations. Perricone’s hair diet may seem as much of a fairy tale as Rapunzel. (Remember, though, Rapunzel’s mom wisely decided to eat greens during pregnancy!) Dr. Perricone’s top ten hair superfoods are no secret to health enthusiasts:

o Acai berries that contain powerful antioxidants

o Allium foods–onions, garlic, leeks, and shallots with powerful bioflavonoids

o Barley rich in niacin, which helps hair growth

o Wheatgrass, spirulina, and algae that cleanse the hair of toxins and provide essential fatty acids to build hair protein

o Buckwheat (eat your pancakes), which Perricone says is richer in vitamins, flavonoids, and minerals than other grains (except barley)

o Beans and lentils, for the same reasons as the 2003 study

o Hot peppers, which contain capsaicin that stops the pain so you don’t tear your hair out!

o Nuts and seeds, which contain essential proteins, phytochemicals and fatty acids to build healthy tresses sand reduce signs of aging

o Sprouts–they’re great for a youthful body, including the body in your hair

o Yogurt and kefir, which are said to promote longevity and health in people who live in the Caucasus Mountains in Russia–remember Julie Christie’s gorgeous hair in “Doctor Zhivago”?

While you can eat your way to healthy hair, many “hair formula” supplements crowd the market. In general, a multivitamin containing biotin, especially multivitamins for women, will strengthen your hair, skin and nails. Be sure to compare vitamin supplements, and make sure you don’t get an excess of vitamin D, which can lead to cancer as well as too much calcium that your body can’t process. Don’t count on supplements to save your hair.

Also, don’t expect to look like you’ve just stepped out of a hair commercial after changing your diet. You’ll start to see healthier hair three months after you improve your regimen. You can jazz up your beauty routine with juicing, dehydrating, and sprouting. Better nutrition will help color-treated hair maintain its bounce, too. And drinking water is always a great idea. You’re worth it!

2010 Fall Hair Styles

If you are looking for a way to shape your style this fall curls are the way to go. They are rising up to be the next big thing this year, literally.  It’s all about curls big, small, loose, or tight having curly or wavy hair will help you be fashionable this fall.

After over 1000 hair stylists were polled the conclusion was staggering, curly hair is the next thing this fall and winter. Look for texture that helps add depth to your hair, also make sure you look for an oil or treatment to help soften those curls, the softer the better. You want your hair to be shiny and soft but not flat or lifeless.

Even though curls are the rage it is still all about the cut. A good cut can lead to major curlage where as the wrong cut can lead to flat dead hair. To get maximum results remove some length, which can weigh down or flatten the hair out. Once this is done it should help make hair more curly and bouncy.

The look this years is relaxed and happy, which means go big. Now if you want to shy away from the curls that’s fine but big is still where it is at. Try to stay away from major heat or chemical treatments which can damage hair and cause it to become dead and life less. If you hair needs a pick me up try hair vitamins which can help make your hair more healthy and break less.

To get good results you need to find a good shampoo for curly hair, also a curly hair conditioner as well. These can make a big difference in your everyday routine.

Broomfield Hair Stylist: Healthy Color

Healthy Color for Your Hair

This is a fact: Just because a person does not seem to have a reaction after using or smelling an ammonia-based hair color product several times, does not guarantee that cross-sensitization might not occur after the next usage. In fact, it might not occur until the 25th time the product is used. The average customer is in contact with hair color ammonia about every 4-6 weeks; however, hair stylists have daily contact–leading to accumulative bouts of headaches, loss of appetite, and fatigue due to the ammoniated smells

According to the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, ammonia is listed as a hazardous substance that has related negative health effects. Nearly all professional and “box” hair color contain ammonia. If a color line claims to be a “non-ammonia base,” the product most likely contains its “silent scented,” even more toxic friend ethanolamine.

Your hair color and your investment, fully fading

Both the hair professionals and consumers are led to believe ammonia is a “must” for color to work, however it is actually an inexpensive hair color additive used to allow color molecules to penetrate the hair’s cuticle. Because of its properties, these ingredients leave the hair in a compromised and weakened condition. The money you have spent hoping that it lasts a long time is also compromised as fading and discoloration will occur.

For longer lasting, beautiful hair color-avoid these two major ingredients

Ammonia

Recent research has found that 50%-60% of clients suffer from negative effects of ammonia-based colors. Over time, the shaft of hair starts to resemble string cheese. Ammonia not only negatively affects the cuticle of the hair, it also damages the amino acid or protein called tyrosine, which is found inside the hair shaft. When the tyrosine is damaged, the hair’s ability to hold onto color is greatly reduced or eliminated altogether.

Ethanolamine

Ethanolamine is a “silent substitute” if ammonia is not used in a hair color. This ingredient has always been used in semi-permanent color at about 3% concentration. If ethanolamine is to be used in permanent color, the concentration has to be increased to 9%, compared to 1.8-3% of ammonia!

In the amount and how much it is compounded with its “adhesive” property, it can never be totally washed out of the hair and scalp! As a result, every time the hair is washed, the water acts as a mild oxidizer and “process” the color a little bit all over again. This is what contributes to pre-matured fading and the dryness that develops gradually.

So, whether you begin by damaging the hair or re-oxidizing it, the cuticle is damaged and becomes susceptible, and you do not get an end result that you ideally want or could have.

Is a Less Toxic Approach Really Possibly with Hair Color?

Most people have an internal battle that as a consumer they wonder 1) What do we have a right to know? 2) What we are willing to learn? and 3) How then do we discern the wisdom?

Have you wondered why fumed hair dyes sting our scalp, make our eyes water, and make some people sneeze? Then have you asked yourself, “Can this be safe for me?”

About 400 (86%) out of the 456 hair colors ranked in the Skin Deep cosmetics database of the Environmental Working Group are considered high hazard. It is a controversial issue in “quoting” hair dyes to be linked to health Hazards. Many believe the conventional carcinogenic dyes are part of the issue, when used in conjunction with other toxic personal care products.

The early studies showed an association between hair dye use and increased risks for multiple myeloma, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and leukemia, plus ovarian cancer in women. Almost all the early studies indicated that increased risk might be restricted to long-term or frequent hair dye users, particularly users of dark hair dyes.

Is There a Healthy Alternative in Hair Coloring?

Many over-the-counter and professional hair color products claim to be gentle and contain botanical extracts. The few included botanical ingredients don’t necessarily make a safe or “non-toxic” product. Many of these colors contain ammonia, ethanolamine, and/or resorcinol. Several very popular hair color lines contain both ammonia and ethanolamine. This is a good reason to carefully read the labels on even the most “trusted brands.”

Problem Solved. Have your beautiful color, and health too!

It is possible to find safe and healthy hair color products! Here is what a safer color line can offer!

o No ammonia or ammonia substitutes, therefore no damage to the hair.
o Rich, vibrant colors including reds and coppers that do not fade.
o Lighten up to 6 levels without having to bleach or damage the hair.
o No more itchy scalps, stinging or staining.
o No toxic odors in the salon-smells like grapes.
o No ammonia gas to be inhaled.
o Ability to color the hair more often.

For both the customer and the hair professional it is important that professional salons soon offer a coloring service with a more integrative, healthier, and longer-lasting investment for the client.

It is also important that professionals and consumers learn to recognize what chemicals are in your hair color brands by reading the labels (or by asking your colorist to tell you).
We can have our beauty, and our health too. Everyone must do what they can to remove hazardous chemicals from their lives.

Easy Updo’s For Everyday Style

An updo is simply arranging the hair in a bun or a pony tail instead of letting it hang freely around the face.  These days updos are no longer the formal stiff looking buns and knots that women used to fashion during proms, weddings or other formal occasion.  Instead modern updos are more soft, sexy and feminine.  Modern updos can now be done quickly and can be worn during any occasion, making an easy DIY updo accessible to any woman.

For the modern woman an updo is not just a fashion statement, it is a must.  Mothers and career women feel that they can move around more freely when not constricted by long hair.  The updo is not just for straight haired women, they are also for the curly haired.  Doing your hair does not have to necessarily mean an expensive trip to the hair salon or the stylists’.  It can be done cheaply and in a short time right in your own home.

For the most basic updo, you can just tie your hair in a pony tail and be done with it.  Another way to do a basic updo is to gather your hair in one hand and raise it behind your neck.  Pull your hair into a twist and secure the twisted hair with hair pins or those specially designed hair-claws.  Let the ends hang freely.  To add more style, pull some hair out from the side of your face and let them frame your face.  By allowing some wisps of your hair to fall freely, your updo is softer and more feminine.  You don’t have to worry about your hair being messy despite the clips and hair pins.  Most celebrities wear their updos in this messy style.  This casual hairstyle can be worn not only at home or at work but can be worn during any event.

For my personal updo, which I wear everyday at home and when I go out.  I wash my hair and apply conditioner.  I towel dry my hair and if I don’t need to go out I don’t use blow dryers instead opting to have my hair dry naturally.  When my hair is finally dry I put on some leave on conditioner or hair gloss.  Since I have black hair these products will make my hair shinier.  I put on a head band to keep the hair out of my eyes.  I usually choose those elastic kinds with colorful patterns.  After I secure my head band, I gather the rest of my hair at the back of my neck and depending on my mood I usually secure my hair low, just at my nape, or when I am going out for a night in town with my friends or have to go to a business meeting I secure it in a pony tail high on my head.  My hair is shoulder length so instead of finishing the pony tail, and pulling the hair out all the way out the scrunchie, I let a small bun form and arrange the hair I have pulled out to cover the bun and scrunchie.  This style is casual and messy but it can be worn to formal occasions too.

The updo is a very versatile hairstyle, so you can personalize it to suit your needs, mood or the event you have to attend.  You can try accessorizing your updo with barrettes, hair clips or bobby pins.  You can also try curling those loose tendrils with a curling iron if you have straight hair to add variety and style to your updo.  A casual messy updo is the best look for any occasion. It is easy and fun to do.  This look is easy on the budget too.

There are many other ways of doing updos. So do not be afraid to experiment and try out new styles. An updo style is out there waiting for you to try out. Get more great Hair Updo Ideas at http://www.HairUpdosBlog.com

Top Tips For Perfect Hair on Your Wedding Day!

Your wedding is supposed to be the best day of your life and is only natural that you would want the whole day to go smoothly. You will also want to look as good as you possibly can. Chances are you will invest a lot of time choosing the perfect dress with all the perfect accessories, but don’t forget about your hair! Your hair is your best accessory so make sure it looks great with these helpful hints. After all, hopefully you will only get married once so this is your big chance to look your best!

The biggest piece of advice you can follow is to plan everything well in advance. This includes your hair, makeup, accessories and dress and all these things must work together. You don’t want to find out at the last minute that your hair conflicts with your dress for example; this would be a disaster and send you in to serious panic. Bridal make up always looks best when it is kept minimal and natural and make sure that the colour scheme matches with what you are wearing.

If you are planning on wearing a head dress or a veil for your big day you should choose your hairstyle before you choose your accessories as you will need to match them to your do.

Next you need to make a decision about your stylist. If you already have a stylist then make sure that you have a few practice runs with your hair style before your big day. If you don’t already have a stylist then you need to start looking for one. Ask around as see if any of your family or friends can recommend anyone. Once you’ve had a few practice runs with your stylist you will be able to see any flaws in your plans and you will be able put any nerves to rest before your big day.

Deciding on your hair style can be quite tricky. Obviously you want to look your best on your big day and adding hair extensions can be a good way of enhancing your beauty. With hair extensions you do not need to think of your current style as a starting block for your wedding style. If you have short or fine hair you do not have to let this restrict your style. Adding extensions to your natural hair can add volume, length and texture and can completely transform your look. Your bridal hair style should reflect the fact that your wedding day is a one-off special occasion therefore you can make much more effort that you would on an everyday basis. When choosing your hair style you should also take in to consideration the style and cut of your wedding dress. For example, if your dress is strapless you may want to consider wearing your hair up to show off your shoulders and neck. Also if your dress is classically cut and elegant then your hair should reflect this by creating a beautiful elegant style.

Top 3 Secrets to Healthy Hair

Having a healthy mass of hair that acts as a head-turner is the dream of every woman. But it takes a lot of patience and care to gain that volume, which you secretly desire. Rising levels of pollution coupled with lack of rest and unhealthy eating habits can take a toll on your locks. That is why the first step towards beautiful hair lies in the awareness of what you are actually doing in your daily life. If you are following a healthy diet plan, working out regularly, having enough rest to rejuvenate yourself, you can surely look forward to possessing glamorous tresses. We can basically sum up the secrets to healthy hair in three little steps.

Balanced Lifestyle This is the primary and most important factor that will lead you towards a healthy mane shining with life. You need to pay proper attention to what you are eating. Due to our fast paced life, a lot of us have a bad habit of binge eating. When you are trying to achieve healthy, problem free hair, you will need to have a balanced diet plan made for yourself. At the same time, allocate some time everyday for regular exercises. This helps in regulating your blood circulation and keeping your scalp healthy. A healthy lifestyle will also include proper amount of rest. If you don’t give your body enough time to heal and rejuvenate after a hectic day, it will certainly show up in the way your hair looks and feels.

Less Use of Chemical Products In the name of hair care, most of us have been addicted to hair products that are high on chemical content. More than helping our hair, these products affect the health of our hair in the long run, causing hair fall, and resulting in dry and damaged hair. Therefore, try resorting to natural hair care products and limit your use of chemicals.

Hydrating Your Hair Drinking the right amount of water will not only keep your body hydrated but will also ensure the health of your scalp. Quite a few people often experience hair fall due to the dryness of their scalp. Making sure of your intake of water and other beneficial forms of liquids helps maintain your hair health. While hair type and hair care may vary from person to person, these are some basic steps that guarantee healthy hair for everyone. So, follow them to flaunt healthy hair in style. Spring Hair Styles for 2010

Spring is just around the bend and everybody’s excited for the anticipated leap forward, but more than that it’s telling us to shake off the winter blues. And what better way to do that than to smarten up your style with a new hairstyle?

Now you don’t really have to rush into a drastic change without consulting somebody in-the-know just to update your looks. Your hair cut and style or even your hair color is as important as when you go for a new wardrobe, so consult your hairdresser. They would be in the best position to advise you on what will look good with the type of hair you have, face shape and skin tone.

Spring hairstyles for women call for excellent cuts that show off soft layers and wispy fringes for easy and versatile hair styles. It’s the perfect time to bring out that soft feminine look to complement open necklines, flowing floral fabrics and silky smooth pastel makeup apt for the season.

It seems straightener is temporarily relegated to the drawer, at least until after the sunny seasons; soft textures and curls rule and will most likely dominate the hair waves in the following months. It’s all about that carefree, natural look with plenty of texture and not as much hair products.

Here are some basic guides to get that trendy new look:

Sassy Short Hair

This season, shorter hairstyles are a study in contradiction; an amazing blend of soft and sharp, if you want to put it that way, with a touch of the playful and the rebellious. Most women seem afraid of short hair because they’re quite unsure that they wouldn’t end up with blunt cut and straight edges. But if it’s done right, you’d end up with the trendiest short hair style.

How to get the right style: Hair should be shorter on the sides and longer through the top with lots of volume. Ask your hair stylist to create choppy, asymmetrical layers on top. This will ensure that hair doesn’t lie flat to the head and has slight volume. Sweeping fringes or heavy bangs that taper from shortest to longest in a left-to-right fashion, add a delicate finish to an edgy look. This style also allows you to wear your hair all brushed forward, swept to one side or parted and tucked behind the ears.

Sexy Mid Length or Shoulder Length

An all-one-length hair looks boring and dull; and there’s a chance that it won’t frame your face as it should. So avoid it at all cost. Layers are still very much in and they generally give your hair that bouncy movement, glossy shine and silky smoothness.

How to get the right style: Have your hair stylist add longer layers at the back with shorter strands in front to better frame your face. Give firm instruction not to over-layer though, as this can result to hair getting a tad too wispy and thin at the bottom, and may create “fly-away” strands.

If your hair is on the thin side or you have very fine strands, use volumizing shampoo and only apply conditioner at the tips. For extra lift, apply volumizing product to the root and scalp area and briskly massage with your fingertips in an upward direction. You can either air-dry your hair for messy but sexy look or blow-dry straight with a paddle brush. Complete the style with some squirts of hairspray for added texture and volume.

Chic Long Looks

The good thing about long hair is there are dozens of ways you can style it whether you have natural waves and curls or very straight long hair.

How to get the right style: Rather than taking off a uniform length, your hairstylist should trim and shape in layers to frame your face better. Layers give the illusion of lighter look.

If you have wavy or curly long locks, wear it loose and relaxed with long tumbling waves. With the classic model center parting, the “just-from-the-beach” look provides a carefree, chic and sexy appearance. You can still sport this hair style even if you have straight hair by following these simple steps:

  • Blow-dry and section your hair
  • Twist into ringlets and secure with hairclips; then, allow to cool
  • Remove grips and gently run your fingers through the tresses

Spring 2010 hairstyles will see a resurgence of one sided braids and side plaits. This hair style is very easy to create. First, apply a texturizing or styling product that provides soft hold. Then sweep hair to one side and plait loosely, securing the bottom with a natural colored band. Run your fingers over the braid and tease out the short bits to create a messy but playful finish.

Up-do is still a hit in hot 2010 long hair styles that include the classic ballerina buns. But loose buns are also chic and sexy and easy to do, too. Buy a hair donut from a dance shop. Pull your hair into a pony tail and secure with a naturally colored elastic band. And don’t worry about making it perfect – messy looks great! Thread the hair through the donut and wrap your hair around it. Use a few hair grips to hold it in place.

Take the hint from the catwalks this spring and hug your hair’s natural texture. Go for 2010 spring hairstyles that bring out the essence of a woman: simplicity and femininity.

Prom Updo’s

There are several choices when it comes to prom hairstyles. Girls can either have an updo or down do, and even a half updo. Every hairstyle does a great work in complementing the whole look. Prom half updos are perfect options for some girls because of the combined benefit it gives. It offers the classiness of a hair updo and the comfortable feature of a down do. These hairstyles are easy to handle since there will be no complicated tight buns to make. Your hair can be styled with a down do and simply pin the back of your hair for a chic look. The versatility and ease offered by this hairstyle makes it a popular choice among many girls and from hair stylists as well.

The different hairstyles vary according to how they are styled. They can be done either on the front or back of the hair. Your front hair is left freely swaying on the sides of your face either curled or straight. The back can also be curled or pinned with the front portion having a side swept fringe to compliment the look.

Ponytails can also be applied for a prom half updo. You can pull your hair back into a high ponytail or place the ponytail on the side. Either way, it will be easy to create and manage. You can produce fascinating looks like high sweep updo and pinned back curls. If your hair is naturally straight and you want to have an elegant style, make sure that you have the ends of your hairs curled and the front done with little curls as well.
